Maison Martin Margiela dresses Kanye West for Yeezus tour
“Come through with the ‘Ye mask on,” raps Jay Z in recent hit “Picasso Baby,” a nod to Kanye West’s shows at Atlantic City’s Revel Resort in December 2012, during which the musician wore haute couture crystal masks by Maison Martin Margiela.
The new tour, in support of his latest release “Yeezus,” will see West hit the stage head to toe in one of his favorite brands, Maison Martin Margiela, wearing ten haute couture pieces, ten pieces from the current collections, and four masks, as well as an exclusive pair of sneakers. The pieces include specially embroidered bomber jackets while the masks hide the rapper’s face behind marble and crystal veils.
During Kanye’s last tour for “Watch the Throne” (during which he shared the stage with Jay Z), West wore specially designed kilts and other Givenchy gear custom made by the brand’s Italian creative director Riccardo Tisci.
While female pop stars have always been partial to couture costumes, high-fashion stagewear has now become a major trend for male performers, with designers including Neil Barrett and Tom Ford recently outfitting Justin Timberlake, and Gucci’s Frida Giannini creating outfits for John Legend.
