Jonathan Saunders Announces Closure
After 12 years heading his eponymous label, Jonathan Saunders announced yesterday morning that he would be closing the label as soon as the spring/summer 2016 order were closed.
In the statement released yesterday, Saunders expressed gratitude for friends and colleagues across the industry and in his own company. “It is not a decision that I take lightly and I am eternally grateful to my team for all their hard work and dedication.” Saunders went on to reflect on working with Eiesha Bharti Pasricha, a primary investor in the company since earlier this year. “Eiesha has not only been a fantastic partner over the last year but an incredible support and we remain close. I am very thankful for all of the friends that I have across the industry, and I look forward to working with everyone again soon on future creative projects.”
Pasricha also reflected on their work together, saying that, “I have thoroughly enjoyed supporting one of the most talented British designers of our times. Our decision to part ways was not easy and I wish Jonathan every success for the future.”
Saunders stated that personal reasons were behind his decision to close the company. Financial difficulties in the past and difficulty breaking into the overseas market have both been cited by others as potential factors in this decision. Saunders is not alone; Band of Outsiders chose to fold in May of this year without even completing their fall orders, while back in March Marc Jacobs confirmed that the secondary line Marc by Marc Jacobs will be folded into the primary line.
