Gucci goes floral at the Chelsea Flower Show

Gucci has previously gone floral with its prints (think of the recent Spring 2014 menswear show for one), and now it’s getting ready to show off its green thumb. 

Held every year at the Royal Hospital in the West of London, the Chelsea Flower Show (this year from May 20 to 24) is one of the world’s hottest flower and garden events, and a fixture on the London social calendar. This year Gucci has entered the fray with its own garden design. Sarah Eberle, a landscape and garden designer, is the talent behind the Gucci Flora Garden, which was inspired by the brand’s traditional Flora floral motif (originally created for Princess Grace).

“Flora was the very first iconic design motif from Gucci’s storied past that I decided to revive and reinterpret, and since then I have used it on bags, dresses, scarves (of course) and as the inspiration for a series of fragrances. I am so excited by the prospect of finally seeing Flora as a real garden at the Chelsea Flower Show; there is something truly magical about this project,” Gucci creative director Frida Giannini explained. 

The garden will be joined by two limited edition Lady Lock handbags in the Flora canvas, which will go on sale around the corner from the show at the brand’s Sloane Street store from May, with the brand also hosting silk artisan workshops throughout the duration of the event.
