Damir Doma shows resort wear at Pitti
This year’s guest womenswear designer at Pitti, Doma’s show was held at the Corsisi palace in Florence. Models walked down the gravel runway to a live piano accompanist as the sun set over the outdoor gardens.
One of fashion’s emerging talents, Doma set up his own menswear label in 2006 after working for Raf Simons. The 32-year-old only presented his debut womenswear collection in September 2010 but has been rapidly establishing himself with his minimalist and draped silhouettes.
This latest collection kept tight to Doma’s aesthetic (although with some more nipped-in waists), but he added some color (mostly purple and orange) after his previous grey and olive Fall-Winter collection. The Paris-based designer also played with lighter, translucent fabrics which looked perfect for the Florentine heat.
The Pitti W and Pitti Uomo fashion events in Florence bring together established and emerging brands for a feast of fashion fun involving both buyers and press. Last season’s guest designers were Kitsuné Maison, and the Franco-Japanese duo presented womenswear, while Opening Ceremony and Kenzo pair Humberto Leon and Carol Lim showed menswear.
