Moda Operandi unveils luxury punk collection
Luxury labels Balmain, Dolce & Gabbana, Eddie Borgo, Ek Thongprasert, Givenchy, House of Waris, Moschino, Prabal Gurung, Preen, Rodarte, Thom Browne, and Vivienne Westwood have combined forces with Moda Operandi to celebrate this summer’s soon-to-be-blockbuster Punk exhibition organized by the Costume Institute at New York’s famous Met Museum.
“The enduring appeal of punk’s avant-garde ideology is that it inspires designers across the spectrum of design sensibility,” said Lauren Santo Domingo, co-founder of Moda Operandi. “Each designer has created pieces for this capsule collection that expresses their unique vision of punk’s rebellious spirit.”
Prices for the pieces range from punky $100 to a decidely couture $13,000, and the collection features some traditional elements of each house (loosely proportioned Balmain blazers, and draped Givenchy capes) with added punk detailing.
The “Punk: Chaos to Couture” exhibition kicks off on May 6 with the famous Met Ball, a gala dinner attended by some of fashion’s biggest names accompanied by A-list guests from the worlds of film and music. The show runs from May 9 to August 14.
