Contemporary patchwork at Calvin Klein Collection Pre-Fall 2015

Exploring his latest work at Calvin Klein Collection, Costa highlighted two main themes: California’s sense of laidback ease and the work of contemporary American visual artists. 

While the silhouettes appeared deceptively undemanding, it was the intricate patchworks of woven and knitted fabrics that first caught the eye, followed up with shearling and other skins and furs combined with rustic overstitching. Other fabrics included corduroy, velvet, boucle, chenille and textural prints, as well as tons of leather pieces, from flared pants to biker jackets and skirts which all came in a further patchwork. The color palette stuck to solid neutrals and a smattering of monochrome pattern, with a heady dose of this season’s favorite: marsala.  

Alongside the patchworks were solid knit crop tops (with extra rib knit dresses and separates coming pleated) and Mongolian wool muff-collars. When it came to shoes and accessories, exotic skins were also the order of the day; mid-height black, neutral and burgundy snakeskin boots featured chunky heels, and were complemented with python patchwork clutch bags and document holders.
