How to feel good about yourself after a breakup

Posted on

A breakup can take a lot out of you. You need time to process your emotions and the momentous life change you are going through. Whether you dated for three months or three years, breaks up are difficult. It can knock your confidence and make you feel uncertain about what the future holds. It’s time to turn off Bridget Jones, wash your hair and pick yourself up after the breakup. And remember – you’ve got this.

Here are a few ways to feel good about yourself after a breakup.

Give yourself some space

You need to separate yourself from your ex. Unfollow them on social media and block them if you need to. You might be tempted to view their Instagram stories of what they’re up to or to message them about your heartbreak. Delete their contact information and take some time offline to clear your head. If you can’t bring yourself to delete their number completely, you could give it to a friend and delete it off your phone. You can always ask for it back if you want to contact them in the future

Do things that you enjoy

It’s easy to lose yourself in a relationship. You might have stopped doing all the things you once loved to do, like painting, meditating or watching Gossip Girl. You should indulge in your favourite things again and remind yourself why you love them.

Do not use alcohol or drugs

Alcohol is often advertised as the cure for heartbreak. Hollywood heroines drown their sorrows in wine and cocktails to get over their partner. While alcohol might make you feel better initially, it will leave you feeling much worse. A hangover is the last thing you need on top of heartbreak.

Go shopping

Leave the house and go shopping for a new outfit on the high street. You can get some fresh air and remind yourself that you can stand on your own two feet. You could even buy a sexy lingerie set to wear under your clothing for a girl’s night out. Lingerie can make you feel confident and empowered – even if no one sees it. It’s your little secret.

Give it time

It takes time to get over a breakup. Face your emotions head-on and process them gradually. As you work through your emotions, you will slowly start to feel stronger and better.

You need to put yourself first when you go through a breakup.
