NYFW: layering and volumes at DKNY
At the DKNY show, models comfortably walked the runway in athletic footwear. There were high-top and low-cut sneakers — white or multicolored, flat or with platform soles — but there wasn’t a pump in sight.
Overall, the collection drew on a vast palette of yellows, greens, oranges, blues and reds — all mixed in with a healthy dose of blacks and whites. There were plenty of solids, along with some stripes and geometric prints.
But the most striking aspect of the collection was seen in the volumes. Several outfits placed flared miniskirts over narrow-fitting over-the-knee skirts, a combination that was often paired with oversize tops with balloon sleeves or peplum waists.
If there is one thing to take away from the show, it’s a lesson in layering (different colors, patterns, shapes and materials).
On a different note, the Donna Karan show also saw seven real New York women walk the runway alongside the professional models.
