Milan menswear shows: highlights from day three
Emporio Armani
In terms of colors, Armani remains on the conservative side in this Fall-Winter 2014 collection, with its palette in grey, black and navy with just a few pops of dark purple. The true expressiveness comes through in the fabrics: luxurious velvet and fur are worn alongside more rustic materials such as leather or waxed cotton. The Emporio Armani man is athletic but urbane, sporting velvet coats, knit snoods and plenty of fur. Among the star items in this collection is a retro classic borrowed from the female wardrobe: the detachable fur collar, worn with sweaters, blazers or coats.
Gucci
The silhouettes in this Gucci collection, straight and clean, are complemented by large leather bags held in one hand at the hip. Opening with neutral but pale colors (light blue, powder pink, pale grey), the runway show ended with a series of all-in-black looks. Throughout, caps added a touch of boyish charm to the looks on the catwalk. The materials used in this collection are fluid and constantly in motion, whether in thin blazers or leather pants. The star pieces in this collection: beige cigarette pants and ultra-thin turtlenecks worn under a shirt buttoned to the neck.
Etro
Plaid is back in a big way at Etro, particularly in a classic tartan print in mustard yellow, brown, orange and grey. The elegant three-piece suits tailored from this tartan cloth are classic and suitable for men across all generations. While these plaid ensembles stole the spotlight, red tapestry-style prints and long wool coats worn on the shoulders added to the originality and complexity of this collection.
