Kitsuné opens first Tokyo store
Opened in Tokyo on February 15 as a late Valentine’s Day present, Maison Kitsuné Tokyo is Kitsuné‘s first store in Japan.
The space is split over two locations; one will house the Maison Kitsuné collections, while a Café Kitsuné will stock Kitsuné records and the Kitsuné Tee and Parisien lines.
The space was designed by Masaya Kuroki, Kitsuné co-founder. “For our Maison Kitsuné shops in Tokyo, I kept in mind the architecture of our Paris stores, which carry a strong Haussmann style, to which I added some touches of traditional Japanese materials,” he said.
In fact the store is set to be a feast for fans of classic Japanese folk design, featuring tailor-made colored tatami, monogrammed Japanese cedar parquet floor, and custom-made rice and bamboo sliding doors.
In a country famous for its tea, Kitsuné is banking on bringing a little French touch with its coffee. Café Kitsuné will feature a team of Japanese baristas trained by Kunitomo Eiichi, the founder of super-hip Tokyo coffee joint Omotesando Koffee.
The launch was celebrated with a party featuring Kitsuné record artists LOGO, BeatauCue, Pyramid and Crayon.
