Katie Eary goes on a sexy desert-inspired journey for River Island
River Island revealed the first glimpse of the 18-piece collection from the exciting young talent (alongside her own Katie Eary label, she’s spent time working with Kanye West on his own label) Tuesday.
And it doesn’t disappoint, packed as it is with bold patterns and bright colors (there’s something a bit Roberto Cavalli-esque about the animal prints), and fluid fabrics.
“My starting point was Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas,” explained Eary. “Except in my story it wasn’t Johnny Depp, it was my muse (the strong woman) on a crazy hallucinatory journey through the desert. I then went on to design looks for her while she was on this journey. It all became very ‘Tribal Dipped in Gold”.
The pieces include plenty of sexy swimwear, maxi dresses and skirts with thigh-high slits, and bleached denim. Meanwhile metallic accessories range from feather earrings to a choker necklace and a fringed bag.
“River Island connects to the cool type of women which suits my project. All those independent, sexy, powerful women who frequent River Island, so naturally I thought we were a perfect match,” added Katie.
The collection will launch supported by a film by Kinga Burza at the Fash/on Film event held on the opening day of London Fashion Week, Friday, February 14, and it will be priced from £15 to £120 (approximately €18 to €145).
