In the mood of Barbara Bui: "Yves Saint Laurent has always been a great inspiration to me"
Relaxnews: Which famous person – living or dead, historical or contemporary – could represent this new collection?
Barbara Bui: Nico during the days of The Velvet Underground.
R: Where were you when you found the inspiration for this collection? What was the light-bulb moment?
BB: At home in Paris. The light-bulb moment was when I decided to take my style’s DNA to the extreme. Animal-inspired designs in tachist-style prints, sheepskin or rawhide. Rock style bordering on punk style, even going as far as pieces entirely covered in studs.
R: If you had to sum up your collection in just one piece, which would you choose?
BB: Not one piece, but two: a chunky knit poncho with sheepskin and an oversized biker jacket in performance jersey.
R: Rihanna is becoming a real style icon. Could she be a muse or a spokesmodel for your label, and if so, what outfit would you dress her in?
BB: Rihanna could become a spokesmodel for the brand. I think the collection would suit her very well, but it would be up to her to choose her look.
R: Which designers have inspired you in the past, and who inspires you today?
BB: Yves Saint Laurent has always been a great inspiration to me, as he took pieces from men’s fashion and turned them into means of seduction for liberated women.
R: What do you dislike about the world of fashion?
BB: I can’t stand disposable fashion; I prefer things that last.
