PFW: stripes and light layers at Dries Van Noten

Van Noten knows how to put on a show, and this was a stormer, right the way through from the trompe l’oeil moss runway (for the finale, his ladies lay down “Déjeuner sur l’herbe” style) to the clothes themselves. 

He opened with striped satin tailored trousers and shorts, and tons of printed semi-sheer silk. Models clutched deerskin bags (the material popped up repeatedly on accessories) and wore Dries favorites like brocade coats and bomber jackets. Tiered dresses arrived along with colorful, fuzzy knits, sequin tops, watercolor florals and indigo pinstriped tailoring (the jackets came with sleek shawl collars). Other outerwear included long sleeveless coats, but on the whole this was more about light layers than heavy pieces.

The models rocked this season’s trend for loosely center-parted hair, with a nude face save for a glossy beige lip. The shoes offered a contrast to the color of the clothes, with most outfits paired with chunky ice white sandals although there were a few fringed and fawn-colored versions.
