Mario Testino creates exclusive online MATE collection
Net-à-Porter has collaborated with Testino on an exclusive new ‘Mario Testino for MATE’ capsule collection, designed to benefit the photographer’s not-for-profit cultural institution based in Peru’s capital city, Lima.
The inspiration came from Testino’s recently opened “Alta Moda” exhibition, which shows mountain-dwelling Peruvians wearing traditional festive costumes and clothes from the Cusco region, shot over a five-year period.
The collection includes silk and cotton blend kaftans, scarves, tote and clutch bags, all covered in abstracted prints drawn out from his photographs, while jeweller Vicki Beamon of Erickson Beamon provided a modern twist on traditional Peruvian handicrafts for the accessories.
“We are huge fans of Mario’s photography and are delighted to be able to offer our customers the opportunity to wear his works of art,” said Holli Rogers, Fashion Director at Net-à-Porter. “The color and detail in the Peruvian costumes are unbelievable and this has paved the way for a fun range of clothing, bags and jewelry,” she added.
Available to buy online from June onwards, the collection will see 20% of profits donated to MATE.
