Lydia Maurer parts ways with Paco Rabanne

Less than a year after her announcement as Artistic Director of womenswear, the news has broken that Lydia Maurer is set to leave her post at Paco Rabanne. 

In a statement released by the brand on May 21, Paco Rabanne thanked Maurer for her contribution and wished her “every success in her future projects.”

“Lydia Maurer brought a new spirit of femininity and modernity to Paco Rabanne ready-to-wear. Her work on the Spring/Summer 2013 and Fall/Winter 2013 shows contributed to raising the profile of the House on the international fashion stage,” said the company. 

Aged only 29, and with previous experience at Yves Saint Laurent and Givenchy under her belt, Maurer had been widely praised for her two collections with the brand. Reviewing her Fall 2013 collection, Style.com commended Maurer for “a sharp, tightly edited collection that connected the early years of Paco Rabanne with the present.”

Her appointment was first announced last June, when she replaced former creative director Manish Arora, whose stay chez Rabanne was also rather short. The Indian designer worked with the house to revive the runway collections (which had stopped in 2006) from February 2011 to May 2012.
