Schiaparelli reveals new design director

Posted on

Schiaparelli has named Bertrand Guyon as its new design director. An experienced couturier, Guyon currently works at Valentino, and has now been hired to revive the legendary brand, opened in the 1930s by the revolutionary designer Elsa Schiaparelli.

Guyon is expected to present his first collection for the brand at Paris couture fashion week this July.

The Schiaparelli house, owned by Italian entrepeneur Diego Della Valle since 2007, has been searching for a new design director since November 2014, following Marco Zanini’s departure after just two seasons.

Elsa Schiaparelli established herself by her outrageously avant-garde designs, collaborating with Surrealist artists such as Salvador Dali and Jean Cocteau. Guyon, a graduate of the École de la Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne, is expected to return the creativity and couture sensibility of the original brand, which closed down in 1954.
