V&A celebrates fashion photographer Horst with exhibit
“Horst: Photographer of Style” is set to take place from September 6, 2014 until January 4, 2015, with a focus on the work of Horst Paul Albert Bohrmann (known as Horst P. Horst), who lived from 1906 to 1999 and built a reputation as one of the world’s most famous photographers over six decades.
After training under Le Corbusier, Horst began photographing the Paris fashion scene of the 1930s, capturing creations by Chanel, Schiaparelli and Vionnet among others. Later, working in New York City for clients including Vogue magazine, he helped push forward both color photography and fashion imagery in general. The show will feature some of his best known images alongside rare vintage and previously unpublished prints showing a range of subjects from Hollywood starlets to nature studies.
