Milan fashion week: highlights from the weekend

The Italian brand is all about black this season, only very rarely adding small touches of color. Designed by Yvan Mispelaere, this new collection turns the spotlight on tweed suits and on dresses adorned with beadwork, embroidery, feathers and fringes.

Jil Sander
Volume was the word for this collection, which played upon different shapes and cuts. In contrast with many of the season’s collections, the Jil Sander line included several pieces in pale shades and luxurious yet light materials such as cashmere. A great deal of attention went into the coats, perhaps the most original pieces in this collection.

Marni
Consuelo Castiglioni also played the volume card, presenting oversized pieces that looked both elegant and comfortable and were sometimes close to sweatpants. Black and white dominated the color scheme, directing attention to details such as prints, ruffles or fur.

Dolce & Gabbana
Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana wowed fashionistas with vibrant colors and richly detailed prints that were straight from a fairy tale. If we had to summarize the collection in just three pieces: coats in various luxurious fabrics, tapestry-style dresses, and capes.

Missoni
The Missoni collection took graphic prints to new extremes, namely through oversized patchwork-style designs. Even the socks in this line featured vibrant hues, in the form of wide or thin stripes. The Italian design house also turned the spotlight on fur. In terms of accessories, ankle boots (also in bright colors) and trapper hats were among the star pieces.

Salvatore Ferragamo
The Fall-Winter collection from Salvatore Ferragamo featured a darker color palette, but included a number of pieces with a slight shimmer. Ferragamo also relied heavily on prints, which were sometimes slightly faded and always in dark hues.
