H&M Design Award winner announced

Young French designer Eddy Anemian has taken home the H&M Design Award with a collection titled ‘They Can Cut All The Flowers, They Cannot Keep Spring From Coming’.

The 24-year-old was inspired by Tilda Swinton’s character in the beautiful “I Am Love” by director Luca Guadagnino as well as floral patterns, and the paintings of neo-classical painter Ingres. Anemian takes home a €50,000 prize as well as the opportunity this fall to sell pieces developed from his collection in selected H&M stores and online.

The jury included London-based designer Erdem Moralioglu, “Downton Abbey” actress Michelle Dockery, Vogue Italia’s Sara Maino, as well as H&M’s creative head of design Ann-Sofie Johansson.

“All of the judges fell in love with Eddy’s collection, both the romance of how it looks when it is worn, and the extraordinary skill of his work seen up close,” said Johansson. “He is a worthy winner, and a bright new star for fashion’s future.” Erdem was equally complimentary:

“Eddy’s work was very beautiful. The textile techniques used were interesting, as well as the elegant silhouettes he created. The future is very bright for him. I’m excited to see what he will do next,” said the British-Canadian designer.

The award is now in its third year, and last year’s winner Minju Kim also showed at Stockholm Fashion Week, which ends Wednesday.
