From Marion Cotillard to Cara Delevingne: the fashionistas of Cannes 2014
Icons of fashion and cinema
Naturally, the Cannes Film Festival is dedicated above all else to film screenings. Movie stars and directors flock to the festival to present the movies headed to theaters over the coming months, whether they are part of the official competition or not. But outside of these screenings, from May 14, fashion fans can expect to see a parade of film icons showing off their most glamorous looks on the red carpet.
A Cannes Film Festival regular, Marion Cotillard will be at the center of attention for the screening of “Two Days, One Night,” in which she stars. The French actress will no doubt walk the red carpet in a new dress from Dior, for which she is a spokesmodel. Cotillard will likely be accompanied by her partner Guillaume Canet, the lead actor in “L’Homme Qu’On Aimait Trop (In the Name of My Daughter),” which will be screened out of competition.
Speaking of Dior spokesmodels, the festival can also count on the presence of Jennifer Lawrence, who will likely walk the red carpet in a haute couture gown, and Robert Pattinson, who is on the cast of two films in the official selection: “Maps to the Stars” and “The Rover.”
Yves Saint Laurent spokesmodel Jessica Chastain will be in the spotlight at the premiere of “The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby,” most likely sporting a sublime creation from the French couture house. Meanwhile, all eyes will be on Gong Li, who will be present for the premiere of “Coming Home” by Zhang Yimou, presented out of competition. And of course, jury member Sofia Coppola will likely be a paparazzi favorite for her wardrobe and appearance at many functions.
Beauty ambassadors
Each year, a number of brands invite their famous spokesmodels to walk the steps to the Palais des Festivals in Cannes. L’Oréal Paris, for example, the festival’s official makeup brand, regularly seizes the opportunity to show off some of its most lovely brand ambassadors.
This year, Blake Lively and Zoe Saldana will be seen on the red carpet on May 14 and 15, while supermodel Lara Stone will make an appearance on May 21. This will be the first time that each of the young women, the three latest faces of L’Oréal Paris, will step out on the Croisette as spokesmodels of the cosmetics brand.
Of course, L’Oréal Paris has also invited its more seasoned brand ambassadors including Julianne Moore (May 15), Inès de la Fressange (May 15 and 16), Leïla Bekhti (May 17), Eva Longoria (May 17 and 19), Barbara Palvin (May 21) and Bianca Balti (May 23 and 24).
It-girls and fashion icons
Like last year, supermodel Cara Delevingne will be seen all over Cannes, searching for the most lavish parties and exclusive happenings. The young woman, a spokesmodel for several brands including Yves Saint Laurent, is likely to be joined by her loyal friends Rita Ora and Joan Smalls. American actress Michelle Rodriguez could also join the group, although rumors suggest she and Delevingne have recently had a falling out. At any rate, Delevingne and her entourage will not fail to turn heads on the Croisette.
Of the male fashion icons expected to make the rounds in Cannes is producer Pharrell Williams, with or without his signature hat. Always involved in several creative ventures, the 41-year-old artist recently launched collaborative collections with Uniqlo, Comme des Garçons and Adidas Originals.
