2015 fashion: three trends for womenswear
Sporty trends à la internet
‘Health Goth’ and ‘Normcore’ were two of the internet’s hottest trends that got whipped into an online frenzy at the end of last year. This year they’ll be continuing, but expect them to be joined by some new twists on sportswear and some reborn interest in vintage street brands. We can’t say for sure what will be the most meme-worthy labels of the year, but Hood By Air’s Shayne Oliver and London-based Nasir Mazhar are two of the best designers to watch for their in-touch. Their street-smart take on the diverse influences of the internet come with a twist of luxury, while Rick Owens is the established daddy of the whole Sport/Health Goth style.
Retromania mix
The 1960s and 1970s were all over the runway during the Spring/Summer 2015 shows in the fall, and those collections will be hitting stores over the coming months. Expect a boho rebirth over the next six months, with Anna Sui, Alberta Ferretti, Tory Burch and Jeremy Scott all cutting and pasting different rock ‘n’ roll and hippie elements and influences into their clothes. Just Cavalli and Pucci also made a case for the return of the bell bottom jean paired with psychedelic prints, while the same flared trouser shape will stay in vogue for the follow season, having been a permanent fixture across the recent Pre-Fall 2015 collections.
Fashion rebirths
Julia Roberts for Givenchy, Madonna for Versace, the luxury ad campaigns are (as usual) leading the way. This is the year women will be freer than ever to reinvent their style. After a couple of seasons of beauty adverts starring older stars (think Charlotte Rampling for Nars and Jessica Lange for Marc Jacobs beauty), 2015 will see an increasing number of veteran Hollywood actresses and major musicians starring in new fashion campaigns, often with some radical new looks. Riccardo Tisci set the tone perfectly: the Italian designer and Givenchy creative director told Roberts not to show off her trademark smile in the brand’s new campaign. Instead she smoldered into the camera with a low-key hair and makeup look and some severe tailoring. We were captivated, and we’re ready for plenty more.
