J Brand to open first Japanese store
On October 9, J Brand will open its first Japanese store, an approximately 20 square meter space within the Osaka Hankyu Umeda Main Store in Osaka, Japan’s second largest city. The boutique will offer a range of J Brand’s denim, ready-to-wear and casual lines.
The Los Angeles-based label has announced that it will use this first store as a base from which to expand throughout Japan. “Partnering with Hankyu, a leading luxury retailer, for our first shop presence in Japan is an exciting strategic collaboration. We look forward to a very successful relationship,” said Jeff Rudes, J Brand founder and chief executive.
Founded in 2004, the company has previously attracted fashionistas with a five-season-long collaboration with Christopher Kane, and another link-up with Proenza Schouler. J Brand was purchased by Japanese fashion giant Fast Retailing last December; the company is also home to the Uniqlo, Theory, and Comptoir des Cotonniers labels.
