Winner Announced for International Woolmark Prize
The announcement was made this Saturday that Teatum Jones, a London-based label, was awarded the International Woolmark Prize for Womenswear for 2015/2016.
An impressive panel from the industry judged the competition, including André Leon Talley, Stefano Tonchi, and Julie Gilhart. The competition was narrowed down to six regional winners, each awarded an AU$50,00 prize (approximately €31,925) which had been narrowed from 70 nominees from around the world.
In addition to a cash award of AU$100,000 (approximately €63,850), Teatum Jones will be given the opportunity to stock their capsule collection at a number of top retailers, including Saks Fifth Avenue and Harvey Nichols. The label’s designers, Catherine Teatum and Rob Jones, exhibited an incredible collection created using an array of sources. Wool blankets were sourced from a mill in Mayo, Ireland to create the garments, while guipure lace made from Merino wool was found in Northern France, and an Italian source helped to develop a stretch wool for a number of pieces.
