Watch: Behind the scenes with Rag & Bone

Posted on

Opening with the painstaking custom denim finishing (taking eight hours per pair), this film from director Vern Moen explores the efforts that went into the Rag & Bone show this February at New York Fashion Week.

From managing partners Marcus Wainwright and David Neville poring over the final fittings and adjustments for the show, to hair tests with Paul Hanlon, and the razor eye of stylist Vanessa Reid, the quarter-hour documentary shows the exhausting final hours before the curtains are raised.

« Each season you just try and evolve a little bit and push the boundaries as much as you can in certain directions, without losing sight of who you’re making clothes for, » explains Wainwright. Nonetheless « at the end of the day, the whole point of this is that some of it ends up on someone’s back. »

There are plenty of appearances from the brand’s top models including Karlie Kloss, Camille Rowe and Georgia May Jagger, and the very un-fashion (but very British) touch of a pre-show pint of beer! The film also offers insights into the problems you can hit when lots of brands want to do customized bowling jacket style embroidery at the same time.

Inspired by some of the great fashion documentaries like « Catwalk » (1996) and the Wim Wenders classic « Notebook on Cities and Clothes » (1989), Moen’s film is well worth a watch.
