Paris Fashion Week: highlights from day 3
Carven
Guillaume Henry sent out plenty of thigh-high boots, colorful felted and belted outerwear with fur trim (some with animal patterns), and varied hand (one of this season’s key motifs) and flower prints. To add to the glam factor, models carried metallic python purses clutched to their chests, wearing coats in baby lamb, others in pieces covered with crystal arrow embroidery.
Manish Arora
This colorful collection featured Kawaii mash-up hearts, candy canes, snow scenes, cupcakes and ice creams. Arora managed a techno-folk kitsch blend, dressing his models in candy crush meets Sami patterns, headscarves, facial decorations and thick plaits, and finishing the looks with chunky high-top sneakers with Manish Arora logos on the tips of their tongues.
Sharon Wauchob
The Irish designer, formerly at Edun, played with sheer silk and leather this season in a typically restrained palette of deep navy and black. There were some brief flashes of flashiness with the appearance of gold and a big cat fur collar, joined by some delicate embroidered patterns.
Balmain
Creative director Olivier Rousteing took the house on safari for Fall-Winter 2014, with his cast of glamazons dressed up in tons of utility pocket tailoring, as well as leopard, giraffe and zebra prints. He also added a tribal touch with woven skirts, tops, shoes and dresses and thick necklaces with metallic closures. There was obviously plenty of leather too.
