NYFW: luxe urban utility at Rag & Bone
The British duo opened with two of the collection’s key themes: cotton pieces which played with tailored details (the first were in a gray chambray) and side-fastenings on double-breasted outerwear and jackets.
The whole collection worked a sort of urban utility vibe with a sartorial, luxurious twist, from the flat sandals and velcro sneakers to the slick leather skirts and shorts. There were lots of block colors, but a muted floral outline print was later joined by a bold tribal floral in multi-combat-theater army tones (mixing khaki, white, and tan).
Pale, super-thin sheer knits and sporty pleats added a touch of the tennis court. If that didn’t quite say Wimbledon (there was nothing that traditional here) then there was certainly a faint nod to their hometown of London with their updated twist on a classic cotton gabardine rain coat.
