Missoni Comes to London

The Fashion and Textile Museum in London will host an exhibit showcasing the vibrant designs of the Missoni fashion house from May6 to September 4 of this year. As stated on the museum website, “the exhibition celebrates a family firm that has become an international success by combining craft expertise, materials and the latest design trends.”

Along with over 60 years of fashion sourced from the company’s archives, the show will present modernist paintings by artists including Sonia Delaunay, Lucio Fontana and Gino Severini. The show will also incorporate work by Ottavio Missoni that has not been seen before, including paintings, Arazzi, and textile studies. Most of the work presented has not been exhibited before in the UK, offering art and fashion patrons alike a glimpse into the private collections of numerous collectors, and the creative process of a great Italian fashion house.

Still owned by the Missoni family, the company slogan “Made in Italy” rings as clear today as the day it was founded in 1953 by Rosita and Ottavio Missoni, embodying Italian fashion and design worldwide. The exhibit is organized by the MA*GA Art Museum, and supported in part by the Woolmark Company.
