In the mood of Stéphane Rolland: "Each piece in this season was created to defy space"

Posted on

Relaxnews: What famous person, historical or contemporary, could best represent this collection?
Stéphane Rolland: Each piece this season was created to challenge the limits of space, so I can imagine Isadora Duncan representing it perfectly.

R: Where were you when you found the inspiration for this collection? What was the light-bulb moment?
SR: I was on a plane, on the way back from a long journey. Each trip allows me to get away from it all, and my rare moments of peace and quiet on the plane often help me to find inspiration.

R: If you had to sum up your collection in just one piece, which would you choose?
SR: I don’t like reducing my collections down to one piece, because the message is built on an ensemble of elements. Nonetheless, the jumpsuits that open the runway show offer a fairly good illustration of the architecture and movement that define my DNA.

R: Could Rihanna, a true fashion icon, represent your label? What look would you pair her with?
SR: In principle, Rihanna could become a brand ambassador, but I can’t see her limiting herself to any single image. She herself designs the image she projects.

R: Has a particular couturier inspired you in the past or present?
SR: Since my adolescence my references have been Cristobal Balenciaga for his architecture, Mademoiselle Chanel for the freedom she brought to women, Yves Saint Laurent for the intense emotion he has always triggered in me, and Pierre Cardin for his eclecticism.

R: What do you dislike about the fashion world?
SR: Lots of things, but would it really be a good idea to make an enemy of this marvelous family?!
