Hedi Slimane secures second victory in Kering legal battle
Hedi Slimane, former Creative Director of Saint Laurent, recently secured a court ruling in his favour against Kering (the parent company of his former employer Saint Laurent).
According to Reuters, the ruling stated that Mr Slimane should have access to financial information regarding Saint Laurent.Mr Slimane wanted Kering to honour the terms of a partnership agreement that granted him certain rights particularly the right to access information as a minority shareholder in Saint Laurent. Access to the financial information had been challenged by GG France Holding which is part of Kering.
In June 2016 Mr Slimane won a settlement amounting to $13 million against Saint Laurent following his departure from the company in April. The dispute surrounded the non-compete terms of Mr Slimane’s employment contract which prevented him from competing with Saint Laurent by designing his own line or for another label for a specified period of time. During the non-compete period, Mr Slimane would have remained on the Saint Laurent payroll following his exit from the company. Kering lifted the non-compete clause from Mr Slimane’s contract. However he fought to have the clause re-instated. The effect of this being that Kering would be bound to pay Mr Slimane during the non-compete period. This was said to amount to about $13 million which is what Mr Slimane won in the April court ruling.
It is noted that after Mr Slimane’s departure from Saint Laurent in April the company’s Instagram pictures were wiped clean and replaced with a single picture of Mr Slimane’s replacement, Anthony Vaccarello.
