Gisele makes her final runway appearance
After twenty years of being one of the world’s most important supermodels, Gisele Bündchen has announced that she will retire from the runway. Yesterday, Bündchen posted a statement to her official Instagram account revealing that the Colcci show at São Paolo fashion week would be her last. Bündchen opted to complete her career in her Brazilian hometown, walking for a brand that she has been the face of for many seasons.
Bündchen is known for her signature empowered walk which made her famous in the first place. On 11th April she explained to the Brazilian newspaper Folha de São Paolo her reason for retiring, “Automatically my body tells me if what I do is worth it, and it asked me to stop.”
According to Forbes, Bündchen has been the highest-earning model for the past eight years, and last year turned over $47 million (approx £31.5 million) in earnings. She has worked with the industry’s biggest names, including Chanel, Valentino and Balenciaga, as well as being a Victoria’s Secret “Angel” several times. It is expected that Bündchen will now focus her career on print advertising campaigns.
