New York Fashion Week: Ralph Lauren Polo at Central Park
Ralph Lauren’s Polo label gave New York City’s fashionistas a treat Monday night with the world’s first 4D fashion show. This was certainly more about the spectacle than the sartorial, as the designer himself admitted: « I really wanted to do something big for the new Polo Women’s brand — something set in the city — that felt modern, » explained Lauren. « We returned to Central Park, a place I love, and captured the spirit of Polo with a truly innovative mix of fashion and technology. »
Four-storey-tall models charged down the runway projected as 3D holograms onto a 60ft-tall, 150ft-wide 18 x 45 meter) water screen. The clothes stuck to simple, wearable silhouettes, including colorful boho skirts worn with Polo shirts in solid blues, oranges and reds, and a series of looks that played with stripes. Overall it was an on-brand mix of sporty, city and hippy elements.
After the show the label also celebrated the opening of the new 38,000 square ft. (3530 sq meter) Polo flagship on Fifth Avenue which features Ralph Lauren’s first-ever coffee shop, the rather quaintly named Ralph’s Coffee.
