Pucci

Peter Dundas and Emilio Pucci celebrated 60 years of « Firenze | Hometown of Fashion » with a double whammy of fashion and art events held during Pitti. « Monumental Pucci » saw the brand host an art installation, while the main event was the unveiling (or more accurately, the veiling) of the Baptistery of Piazza San Giovanni with a giant version of the brand’s iconic ‘Battistero’ draped over the building. The colorful print, first designed by the Marquise Emilio Pucci in 1957, shows an aerial view of the famous Florentine square. Pucci then continued with the ‘Design the Dream’ experience in its Florence boutique with guests witnessing the creation of a new print scarf, available for purchase in several colors at the store.

La Perla

An icon of Italian fashion for its women’s range, La Perla was at Pitti with Tuscan designer Emiliano Rinaldi, the man tasked with transforming La Perla’s lingerie and swimwear universe into luxury masculine versions for the first time. The beach and indoor wear Rinaldi served up featured prints inspired by an imaginary underwater world. Oysters, jellyfish, seahorses, and flying fish appeared on silk kimonos, cotton and cashmere outerwear and shorts, while beachwear came with a Lycra fish-scale print. Footwear options included biker boots and fringed slippers.

Salvatore Ferragamo

Hosted in the Museo Salvatore Ferragamo in the Palazzo Spini Feroni and open to the public from June 19 2014 through April 12 of next year, the newest exhibition from the luxury shoemaker, « Equilibrium » was also fêted during Pitti. Devoted to the study of the foot in art, fashion, film, books and wider culture, the show features works by Auguste Rodin, Edgar Degas, Henri Matisse, Pablo Picasso, Fernand Léger, Paul Klee and Alexander Calder among others, as well as contemporary pieces from Bill Viola and Marina Abramovic.
