Wunderkind
Wunderkind Woman Autumn-Winter 2017-18 – Wunderkind fully embraced the winter season and showcased a series of cold weather-friendly pieces. Jackets and coats of all types of cuts (cropped to full length), weights (to take you from the early days of fall to the deep, brisk winter) and materials (we saw satin-shell, wool and fur, but the electric blue leather jackets were the standouts) were on full display. While outerwear featured prominently, the label also made a case for knitwear. There were the traditional ribbed and cable-knits, but the custom intarsia sweaters gave everyone’s favorite winter go-to a fun twist. There were also asymmetric skirts and jackets, ruched dresses, and a patch-embellished gown that captured the imagination. A navy velvet ensemble even gave us pause on thinking velvet was an overrated trend beaten to death by both designer and high street brands. The grungier looks were fine, but didn’t provide anything novel and the use of plaid felt overdone at some points. Definitely the key takeaways from this show was the outerwear and knits. We were also into the high-neck hooded sweatshirts – practicality is always a winner. So if you were looking for a proper winter collection that exercise functionality its designs, then this is the one for you.
