Versace
Versace Woman Spring Summer 2017 – “Sportswear is the future of fashion,” declared Versace before the show. It would appear she’s right. Milan shows have been brimming with sportswear, from Armani to Max Mara. But at Versace there was a unique and luxurious twist on the casual sporty looks seen elsewhere. The collection was full of strong, athletic pieces that simultaneously seemed to celebrate femininity.
Dresses clung to the contours of the body with drawstring pulls that accentuated curves and added volume. Tailored pieces contrasted the buoyant coats and sports jackets. These were modernised however with cutouts at the shoulder or cropped above the waist. Knee high boots in navy blues and vibrant reds laced up at the front and models carried oversized nylon rucksacks.
Models were costumed as various powerful players. Panelled leather jackets and jumpsuits turned them into sophisticated superheroes with long colourful coats billowing behind them like capes. Later in the show they transformed into dangerously beautiful soldiers in gowns made of crystal chain mail. The show truly emphasised female empowerment and strength whilst retaining a glint of femininity and sex appeal.
