Undercover

Undercover Woman Autumn-Winter 2017-18 – A diverse collection was presented at Undercover, with an abundance of artfully crafted pieces that imitated wonders from the animal kingdom.

Undercover’s runway was transformed into a musical performance where the outfits came to life through dramatic sleeves, pleated layers and extravagant headwear; transporting the audience to an almost Bunraku puppet theatre.

A blue knitted dress with a flared design and thick stockinette stitch as well as a pastel green outfit with some carefully planned hole detailing and rough-cut hem were elevated in theatricality by pleated and folded sleeves, almost resembling a dream-like, fictive creature. Equally, the morphology of several pieces was redolent of a praying mantis, with a black and brown high-necked outfit in an almost unitard style with puffed sleeves and repeated use of enlarged feather headdresses, giving subtle glimpses of nature’s wonders.

The theatricality continued when a green and bronzed utility belt was latched over a fitted trouser and oversized jumper with an enlarged, red bow serving as belted detail; the show’s true exhibition however, was the layered outwear in pink pastel colours and bulging sleeves connected to ornately patterned dresses.

Reviving the very definition of a fashion show, Undercover’s collection was walking art at its finest.
