Autumn-Winter 2011/12 – A compilation of a variety of fabrics meant that Rykiel was up to her own tricks again. Knitwear was adorned with tweed and also conjoined with fur to elucidate Rykiel’s collaboration of fabric. Noticeable items such as the fringed blanket shawl and dress went side-by-side with trends that have been pertinent throughout Paris fashion week such as oversized bomber jackets. The seventies-inspired trend that all designers have been dedicated to was as prevalent as ever with separates, patent heels and sportier bra tops. Floating silk skirts of orange chiffon were a contrast to the oversized Fair Isle knits but this substantiated Rykiel’s collection. The colour palette was also similar to the juxtaposition of fabrics. The olive, rust, burgundy and brown of the tweed and cable knit cashmere dresses contrasted with the bright red and yellow of the flower printed jumpers. The fur that was such an important feature came in bubblegum blue and pink. Rykiel’s variety of fabrics, prints and colours points to an AW that is full of contradictions.
