Marchesa
Marchesa Woman Autumn-Winter 2017-18 – With the upcoming Oscars, Marchesa is likely to be a very sought after designer after this collection of whimsical, subtly sensual, award show ready gowns. Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig proved that women who design for women can create the most romantic and feminine collection, yet still celebrate the sensuality of the female form. With influences drawn from classic ball gown styles, and oriental silk, form fitting and floral patterns, the collection was diverse in styles and themes but classic in Marchesa style and elegance.
There was a wide range of different designs including velvet, tassels, form fitting and hugely voluminous dresses, but the classic Marchesa theme of romantic, semi-sheer floral patterns tied the collection together beautifully.
Chapman and Craig previously said the collection had been inspired by Imperial China and its decadence, which was clear through the form fitting silk gowns and embroidered patterns. Certain colour combinations such as blush silk and dark red embroidery, and blush pink with subtle green vinery proved to be striking against the backdrop of a completely plain runway.
While Marchesa is known for their floral and high embellished pieces, they created equally chic and simple looks, like a black and white strapless number with ruffle detail down one side which was equality stunning.
