Ann Demeulemeester

Spring-Summer 2014 – Ann Demeulemeester’s collection this season was a striking combination of modern ideas and period inspiration. There was something strangely Victorian about the hats and the three piece suits (the modern twist being that they were in red and white vertical stripes) The colour scheme was enchanting; stark contrasts between white and black, with midnight blue and pale pink to soften it slightly. The floral patterns of black on white should have looked feminine and yet the contrast of the simple lines made it completely wearable. Double-breasted jackets, waistcoats and shirt cuffs all hinted at the bygone era, but things such as rouched jersey collars and the use of denim saved it from being outdated. Again, there was a lot of layering which seems to be a popular trend for Spring/Summer.
