Martin Margiela

Autumn-Winter 2011/12 – Maison Martin Margiela’s collection showed seventies contemporary country chic with urban twist. His long thick wool coats with large collars and sheepskin coat with a black wool collar, fur lined waistcoats and leather boots that look like wellingtons makes one think of working on a farm in winter. He stuck to camouflage colours like beige, grey tan and brown and featured heavy knit jumpers and included polo necks in burnt orange and red. Teaming these with baggy white trousers with zips and pockets gave the look a more urban street feel. His more formal looks still had an air of “dress down” about them, teaming smart wool pinstripe suits with heavy knit polo necks and suit jackets with tracksuit trousers and scuffed boots, almost like a formal construction worker. His focus was on heavy outerwear, from long coats looking like patchwork blankets lined with an orange sleeping bag and tartan suit jackets to quilted waistcoats.
