Louis Vuitton
Louis Vuitton Women Spring Summer 2016 –
Nicolas Ghesquière’s SS16 collection for Louis Vuitton was one of contrasts; Netting was layered over biker style patchwork trousers, while ruffled Lolita white shirts and skirts were paired with deconstructed leather jackets (patched up with a series of older Louis Vuitton handbag prints which were no doubt looked for in the brand’s archives). A miniature box handbag in white emblazoned with Louis Vuitton’s logo was the only bag with a hint of the classic style. Instead, bags took on newer forms: in tie dye quilts, in black with raised circle motifs, in grey with a chain pattern.
In a move away from the brand’s luxury status, Ghesquière’s punk rock princess aesthetic was prevalent in each look’s mismatched and distressed garments and accessories. Clumpy platform sandals were embellished, while ruched leather shorts took on many different forms. The Louis Vuitton girl had quirky eye make up, with miniature triangles below the eyes to give a wide-eyed, doe look.
