Dries Van Noten

Dries Van Noten Woman Autumn-Winter 2016 – Elegance met animal magnetism at Dries Van Noten where animal print and faux fur were defining features of the collection.

From the first look that hit the runway, a strongly androgynous feel was present, with the structured blazer and crisp white shirt evoking a formal elegance undercut by the elaborate wide-leg leopard trousers.

That contrast continued throughout the show, with a tendency for structured jackets and shirts, often complete with a men’s tie, to be teamed with more loose fitting but still formal trousers.

Leopard print was the print of choice, with faux fur a constant presence too. In particular, leopard print coats and furry boleros made a real impact over the stripes, tartans and even spots of the suits and the print subtly peeked into looks in the form of shoes and other accessories as well.

To top it off, the models’ deliberately smudged black eyeshadow also took inspiration from the animal kingdom, simultaneously evoking the nonchalant ‘I’ve just got out of bed’ panda eye look and the fixed stare of a jungle cat. Teamed with a bold eyebrow and gelled back hair, the make up ramped up the striking power of the collection, adding gothic strength to the designs.
