Bottega Veneta

Bottega Veneta Woman Autumn-Winter 2017-18 – Old-school glamour was at the core of Bottega Veneta’s FW collection. Although Thomas Maier refused to call it ’40s-inspired, all of the symptoms were there: perfectly coifed hair, high waists, and semi-sheer stockings. Even the men who walked the runway, albeit with more of a modern swagger, had us recalling of the off-duty styles of old Hollywood actors. There were some leather looks that situated the collection in the present, but overall while viewing the collection we couldn’t help but think of the word classic. They remind us of a time when athleisure wasn’t all the rage, when clothes has shape, form and structure. There was plenty of that here. Strong shoulders and nipped-in waists created the ultimate silhouette to flatter all bodies. We also appreciated the work went into the men’s tailoring and styling. Color combinations were intriguing, yet subtle. And the beautifully crafted accessories are sure to be instant hits when they make it to shelves — we’re especially loving the bags. While some of the styles weren’t exactly new, Maier executed extraordinarily well and even had us wistful for the days when high-polish everything was the standard dressing code.
