Vans teams up with Metallica for shoe line

The members of world famous heavy metal band Metallica have designed a new line of customized sneakers for the Vans ‘Passion Projects’.

Singer James Hetfield’s high-top ‘SK8-Hi Decon’ comes in all-black (inspired by his favorite black boots), and Lars Ulrich’s black laceless ‘Era’ shoe has tonal detailing on the midsection and a solid white sole.

Guitarist Kirk Hammett has designed a sleek slip-on with an orange Vans tab, while Robert Trujillo’s ‘Escuela’ adds a little color with an embroidered blue mid-panel featuring Aztec calendar art designed by his wife Chloe.

Vans is also releasing a video for each model connecting a band member to a top skater. First up is bassist Robert Trujillo meeting heavy metal loving skater Tony Trujillo.

In October last year Vans teamed up with Metallica and skating legend Steve Caballero for a special ‘Half Cab’ edition in black suede, celebrating 20 years since the sneaker first appeared.

Founded in 1981, and one of the originators of the thrash metal style, Metallica have sold 52,672,000 albums in the United States alone.
