The Webby Awards are the closest thing the internet gets to the Oscars. The main Webby awards are voted for by the members of the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences, with a secondary People’s Voice award in each category chose by members of the public.

J.Crew took home the Best Fashion & Beauty in Social Webby Award, beating off competition from the likes of Net-a-porter.com and GQ (which won the People’s Voice award).

Refinery 29 cleaned up the prizes for Best Fashion & Beauty Website, winning both the Webby and People’s Voice Awards, and the site was also rewarded with this year’s Webby for the Best Email Newsletter.

Gilt won the critics’ votes as the Best Shopping, Handheld Devices, with Birchbox awarded the People’s Voice Award in the same category. Finally, the People’s Voice prize for Shopping, Tablet & All Other Devices was won by Polyvore for its iPad app.

Beauty wise, Ogilvy’s Real Beauty Sketches for Dove was the real hit, winning the Webby Award for the best Integrated Campaign and the People’s Voice award for Viral Marketing.
