Saint Laurent unveils new campaign images with Edie Campbell and Beck Hansen
After releasing shots of the menswear collection which featured Dutch model Saskia de Brauw dressing up like one of the boys, and recent risqué shots of Australian model Julia Nobis in Saint Laurent womenswear, Hedi Slimane has now turned to pop star Beck for inspiration.
Appearing alongside the British model and Burberry star Edie Campbell, the musician Beck Hansen strikes a pose in the black and white shots produced by the brand’s Los Angeles-based creative director Hedi Slimane. Beck poses in denim as well as a more upscale tuxedo look, and Campbell appears in a series of items from the brand’s Spring/Summer 2013 collection.
Typical of the multitalented Slimane, this new campaign was shot by the designer in his new home of California, and features a pair of rather accomplished models. Beck, who first broke through into the mainstream with his 1994 single “Loser,” was born in Los Angeles and lives there with his wife, actress Marissa Ribisi. Already a multiplatinum recording artist, in 1998 he also showed a series of paintings produced with his grandfather Al Hansen.
Model Edie Campbell was one of the breakthrough hits of 2012, walking in shows for Chanel, Saint Laurent and Hermès, and she has recently appeared alongside Romeo Beckham and male model Charlie France in the latest Burberry Prosum advertising campaign. The daughter of famed modernist architect Sophie Hicks (who has designed stores around the world for Chloé, Paul Smith and Yohji Yamamoto), Campbell is studying for a degree at the prestigious Courtauld Institute of Art, and is also an ambassador for literacy charity, The Reading Agency.
Visitors to the YSL site can see the images accompanied by Beck’s “Paper Tiger” from his 2002 album “Sea Change.”
