NYFW: highlights from the runway soundtracks
Altuzarra
Altuzarra’s show was soundtracked by Mia Farrow’s lullaby from the 1968 film ‘Rosemary’s Baby’. The song was written by Krzysztof Komeda especially for Roman Polanski’s cult psychological horror film, and provided a slightly bizarre, disarming juxtaposition with Altuzarra’s slick Franco-American style.
Marc Jacobs
Jacobs worked with hip headphone manufacturer Beats by Dre to provide an immersive soundtrack to his Spring-Summer 2015 show. The show music and a specially recorded narrative track talking guests through the experience (all mixed by Pulp bassist Steve Macke) were piped in directly. Cue Anna and co. all in their headphones: a surreal sight, but one only MJ could pull off.
Anna Sui
Anna Sui picked Tame Impala’s “Feels Like We Only Go Backwards” as one of the records to soundtrack the retro-nostalgia of her latest collection. The Aussie rockers were an apposite choice, with their dreamy vocals and woozy guitars matching the guitar-god-and-groupies spirit of the clothes perfectly.
