MFW: a playful babydoll aesthetic at Giamba

Posted on

Valli opened his first ever Giamba show with one of the season’s key looks: a semi-sheer dress, adorned with cute ruffles, and polka-dot tights worn with a peep-toe platform shoe (also one of this season’s key styles).

The 60s vibes continued with a black leaf appliqué, Art Nouveau revival floral prints, and some smart tailoring in a deep indigo chambray.

There were also slouchy hippie-style tops with broderie anglaise, paired with shorts and print miniskirts, and dyed furs, a peacock feather motif, peplum, and a pink and gold brocade. Accessories included the models’ round sunglasses (some with matching colored lenses) and micro-clutch purses on chains.

The beauty look was also a little more youthful and engaging than we’ve seen elsewhere this season. The ubiquitous center parting was there, but look closer and you’ll see that it’s plaited in place. The nude face was also present, but not quite perfect, thanks to the thick abstract line of black line drawn across the models’ eyelids. All in all, it was an engaging babydoll-ish debut for the designer’s new baby.
