The “Beyond Fashion” exhibit, which opens Thursday, celebrates the work of Anglo-American couturier Charles James (1906-1978) with a look at some of his most iconic pieces.

Fêted Monday night with the annual Costume Institute Gala, aka the Met Ball, it’s the first exhibition in the space since its $40 million rebuild and subsequent renaming in honor of Vogue editor and Condé Nast artistic director, the British-born fashion journalist Anna Wintour.

Some of fashion’s biggest names including Calvin Klein, Oscar de la Renta, Diane von Furstenberg, Michael Kors, Carolina Herrera, Donatella Versace, Marc Jacobs, Donna Karan and Ralph Lauren were all on hand for the opening ceremony, which saw Michelle Obama cut the ribbon on the show.

In more exciting news, according to New York Post’s Page Six, there are rumors that movie mogul Harvey Weinstein is ready to breathe new life into the label. The proposed deal would see Weinstein, who is married to Marchesa designer Georgina Chapman, strike a deal with the James family to rebuild the couture house with the possibility of a range of lines and even a fragrance.
