Ann Demeulemeester quits label
The innovative Antwerp-based fashion brand Ann Demeulemeester will be losing their eponymous creative director. According to Vogue UK, the upcoming men’s and womenswear collections for Fall-Winter 2013 will get a joint showing on January 27 in Paris.
Information on the split is for now pretty sparse, with Vogue noting that the designer did not offer a reason for her departure nor an indication of her future plans.
Demeulemeester established her label in 1985, and is perhaps best known as one of the ‘Antwerp Six’, a golden generation of Belgian fashion designers which also included Dries Van Noten and Walter Van Beirendonck. The ‘Antwerp Six’ all graduated from the city’s Royal Academy of Fine Arts in 1980-81 and helped to define both the general direction of 1980s fashion, and the lasting cultural influence of their home city.
