Hemp
Hemp fabric is a strong, lustrous bast fibre. It comes from the cannabis plant and has been used for thousands of years mainly as an industrial fabric. Hemp fabric is notoriously difficult to bleach and dye so it is usually used in its natural state. It is known for its strength and durability; however modern methods mean that it can be made into finer fabrics that are suitable for lighter pieces of clothing such as t-shirts and bags. Hemp is a very environmentally-friendly fabric and although fabrics can be 100% hemp it is more commonly blended with fibres such as cotton or linen.
